About Leen A-H.

Hi! My name is Leen, and I’m a second-year Health Sciences student with a concentration in Biomedical Sciences. I’m excited to be volunteering as a Peer Mentor at the SSSC for the first time this year, and I am also a second-year representative for the Health Sciences Society.

Reflecting on my first year, I’d say my experience was overall positive, but it came with some trial and error like most new beginnings. If I could offer one piece of advice to incoming students, it would be to develop a system early on to stay on top of your coursework and not fall behind. First year is the ideal time to experiment with different study habits and time management strategies compared to the following years. Building those skills early not only helps reduce last-minute stress but also allows you to produce better work and make time for the social aspect of university, which includes relaxing, connecting with others, or enjoying the experience in general.

In my first year, I chose to focus primarily on academics and adjusting to university life, rather than jumping into a lot of extracurriculars. I spent time exploring different clubs and speaking with Peer Mentors at the SSSC to learn more about what support and opportunities were available. That preparation has been very useful in ensuring a smooth transition and preparing me for the coming years.

Even if you’re not sure what kind of support you need, I encourage you to visit the SSSC or take part in events we offer. We're here to help, so feel free to reach out to any of the Peer Mentors. We look forward to meeting you!
