There are four Veterinary Schools in Canada

Admission Requirements 

The Atlantic Veterinary College - University of Prince Edward Island

    • 3 semesters of animal biology w/ labs
    • 1 semester of genetics
    • 1 semester of linear algebra/calculus
    • 1 semester of statistics
    • 2 semesters of chemistry w/ labs
    • 1 semester of organic chemistry w/ lab
    • 1 semester of English (Composition)
    • 10 electives
    • Must complete 20 university prerequisite courses
    • Mean Academic Average should be around 86%
    • W-SAB test required
    • SAT/UNS grades accepted for courses taken during the COVID-19 pandemic
    • Must meet the residency requirements for one of the four Atlantic Canadian provinces (Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, or Newfoundland and Labrador). Non-Canadian applicants may apply to the international pool.

    Ontario Veterinary College - University of Guelph

    • 2 semesters of biological sciences (with recommended emphasis on animal biology) 
    • 1 semester of cell biology
    • 1 semester of genetics
    • 1 semester of biochemistry 
    • 1 semester of statistics
    • 2 semesters of humanities/social sciences (consider topics such as ethics, logic, critical thinking, determinants of human behaviour and human social interaction)
    • Full course load (2.50 credits per semester) required for two years of the undergraduate degree 
    • GPA from last two full-time semesters, and the average from the pre-requisite courses must both be 75% or higher
    • SAT/UNS grades not accepted
    • Must be an Ontario resident to apply. U.S. and International applicants may apply to the international pool.

    The Western College of Veterinary Medicine – University of Saskatchewan

    • 2 semesters of biology w/ labs
    • 2 semesters of chemistry w/ labs
    • 2 semesters of English (at least 1 semester must include literature component)
    • 2 semesters of math or statistics
    • 1 semester of organic chemistry
    • 1 semester of physics w/ lab
    • 1 semester of biochemistry
    • 1 semester of genetics
    • 1 semester of microbiology
    • Full course load (4.0 credits) required for two years of the undergraduate degree
    • Cut off overall average is 75%
    • SAT/UNS grades are accepted in terms during 2020 only. However, if one grade in a semester is a SAT/UNS grade, then all grades in that same semester will be considered a SAT/UNS, and will not be used to calculate the overall average
    • Only accepts applicants who are residents of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the northern territories

    Faculty of Veterinary Medicine – University of Calgary

    • 2 semesters of biology w/ labs
    • 2 semesters of chemistry w/ labs
    • 1 semester of English (must include a writing component)
    • 1 semester of organic chemistry w/ lab
    • 1 semester of statistics
    • 1 semester of biochemistry (lab not required)
    • 1 semester of genetics (lab not required)
    • 1 semester of ecology (lab not required)
    • MCAT required (minimum 495)
    • Cut off GPA = 3.0
    • Must be a resident of Alberta
