What schools offer Pharmacy in Canada?

If you are interested in studying pharmacy in French, there are two schools which offer a completely French program:

Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy (University of Toronto)

  • 2 semesters of biology
  • 3 semesters of chemistry 
  • 2 semesters in math (including 1 semester in calculus)
  • 2 semesters in humanities/social sciences
  • PCAT not required
  • CASPer required
  • Cut off overall average is 70%

  • 1 semester of cellular biology 
  • 1 semester of genetics
  • 1 semester of microbiology
  • 2 semesters of chemistry 
  • 1 semester of biochemistry

  • 1 semester of English
  • 2 semesters of humanities/social sciences
  • Recommended to take human anatomy, human physiology, organic chemistry II, introductory physics, communication courses, and leadership courses

  • Cut off overall average is 75%
  • Recommended that applicants do not opt for SAT/UNS grades

  • Completed 8.0 undergraduate credits

Lab requirement:

  • Three labs must be taken: one lab for 1 semester of chemistry; one lab for 1 semester of cellular biology, genetics, or microbiology; and one lab for 1 semester of chemistry, cellular biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, or organic chemistry

University of British Columbia (UBC)

  • 2 semesters of English composition, literature, communication, and/or writing courses at any year level 
  • 2 semesters of first-year calculus (differential & integral)
  • 1 semester of second-year cell biology

  • Cut off GPA = 3.3; for higher ranking = 3.5 for Albertans, and 3.7 for Out-Of-Province applicants

  • Cut off AGPA = 3.0

What is the PCAT?

The PCAT is a 4 hour standardized, computerized, multiple choice test with five sections. It is not required for any pharmacy schools in Canada, however it may be required for schools elsewhere. The sections included in the PCAT are Verbal Ability, Biology, Chemistry, Reading Comprehension, and Quantitative Ability. The PCAT costs 210 CAD to write. PCAT results are valid for five years. To register or obtain more information on the PCAT, please visit their website.

How much does pharmacy school cost?

Generally, pharmacy school in Canada costs around 15,000 CAD per semester (approximately 18,000 CAD per semester at the University of Toronto). Financial support is sometimes available (see this link for more information).
