About Richard K.
Hello! My name is Richard Kim, and I am currently a fourth-year student in the Honours Computer Science program. This is my fourth year at SSSC, where I am part of the Health Care Team.
If I were to give one valuable tip to incoming first year students, it would be to take full advantage of office hours. I find that many students feel hesitant or nervous about visiting their professors during office hours and bombarding them with questions. However, I encourage you to shed those worries and embrace the opportunity! Professors hold office hours precisely to assist you and facilitate your learning. Feel free to ask questions about topics that weren't clear in lectures, seek guidance on assignments, or discuss any mistakes made in tests or quizzes. Utilizing office hours has been a key factor in my own academic success, and I highly recommend making the most of this invaluable resource. Remember, professors and teaching assistants are approachable and eager to help. Don't hesitate to ask questions!
Beyond my involvement at SSSC, I have been a Teaching Assistant for COMP courses for a few years, and I currently am one of the BoDs at Carleton Computer Science Society. I have actively participated in various events, primarily focused on computer science and medical schools. Overall, I have found these events to be highly worthwhile, even if it's just for socializing. I strongly urge you to engage with student organizations, whether it be student councils or clubs. This unique and enjoyable experience is exclusive to university life, and you don't want to miss out on the opportunities it presents. I genuinely believe that being a part of such organizations enriches your university experience.
Feel free to say hi if you see me at SSSC or CCSS events, or to book an appointment with me to chat.
