About Youssef G.
Hello there,
My name is Youssef Ghoneim, and I’m a third-year student majoring in Computer Science. I’m also a passionate soccer player and an avid fan of Liverpool, particularly admiring Mohammed Salah because I’m from Egypt. Besides soccer, I enjoy playing basketball as well.
If I could offer one piece of advice to incoming first-year students, it would be to stay calm during stressful situations; everything moves on, and it’s important to keep perspective. Additionally, being active within the community is essential, whether that means joining clubs or participating in campus events. Another crucial piece of advice is to manage your time effectively, balancing academics, extracurricular activities, and personal time.
Since starting university, I’ve been involved in various clubs and events, including the Egyptian Student Association and other cultural clubs. These activities have allowed me to understand different backgrounds and make valuable connections, significantly enriching my university experience.
University life can be challenging both academically and socially, but these challenges are opportunities to grow and learn. Here are some tips to make the most of your time:
- Engage with People: Regularly initiate conversations; many amazing people you meet won't know you without an invitation.
- Utilize Textbooks: In STEM fields, textbooks are invaluable. Learn to identify good ones and take minimal but necessary notes.
- Connect with Professors: If you enjoy a class, attend the professor’s office hours and ask nuanced questions. This can be a great networking opportunity.
- Find Nice Places: Explore your surroundings and find spaces that inspire you. Embrace your ability to think, feel, and experience new things.
Remember, an education driven by curiosity and engagement with your community can be incredibly fulfilling. Go out and make the most of your university experience!
