About Rae S.

Hi, my name is Rae Shi and I am a fourth-year standing computer science student at Carleton University. I also have a previous dentistry degree from Nanjing Medical University. As a transfer student myself, I am available to answer any questions you may have.

My advice for incoming first-year students is to make meaningful connections. You can find potential friends through clubs, classes or off-campus events. Forming allies who share your goals and interests is invaluable. You can collaborate, support and motivate each other. I would also advise figuring out your passion early on. Having passion will fuel your motivation and drive your success. Do not be afraid to explore different opportunities.

Over the past year at Carleton, I have volunteered with WiCS (Women in Computer Science) on campus and GDG (Google Developers Group) Cloud Ottawa off campus. In addition to volunteering, I have attended events and workshops organized by SSSC, CCSS and various tech conferences like CUSEC (Canadian University Software Engineering Conference) and CUCAI (Canadian Undergraduate Conference on Artificial Intelligence).

Volunteering and participating in these communities has given me a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Through these events, I have built connections, obtained opportunities, and gained new insights into the industry that will benefit my future career.

If you have any questions or would like to connect, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am happy to offer any assistance I can.
