About Alida M.
Hi everyone, I’m Alida! I’m in my final year of Neuroscience and Biology combined Honours with a co-op designation. In my free time I enjoy reading fiction, binging Netflix, and playing soccer.
For those of you in first year: this is a transition! There are aspects of university that are hard, unexpected, and stressful. BE KIND TO YOURSELF. It can take a while to adjust, and everyone has different obstacles in their path. It’s ok to be uncomfortable – means you’re going outside of your comfort zone.
To help: get involved! You can meet people, make friends, and build a connection to university simply by joining a club, playing intramurals, or even volunteering. And try out new ways of studying and managing your time. We all do it in our unique way and taking time now to figure it out will make the next few years easier!
And if you’re not sure where to start, come to the SSSC (or email!) and just ask.
In my last four years, I have gotten involved in Fall Orientation where I created lasting friendships (and met one of my very best friends!) as a participant, volunteer, and coordinator. I also love getting involved in intramurals, where I’ve played both competitive level soccer and recreational volleyball. Lastly, this will be my third year at the SSSC where I have made amazing connections, attended the “How to Apply for a DSRI” workshop (which allowed me to do my very own DSRI after my first year), and got to really connect with Carleton! This year, I’ll also be the co-Team Lead for the Community Team – where we look for ways to positively impact the Carleton Science community
If you have questions or just want to chat, reach out or drop-by the SSSC. We are all here because we want to help you succeed and have a wonderful year!
