The SSSC Mission Statement
The Science Student Success Centre helps all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Science define and achieve their academic, career, and social goals.
So What Do We Really Do in the SSSC?
Are you the kind of person that goes above and beyond to help out other people? Do you feel rewarded when you share your skills to assist someone else? Do you love coming up with creative ideas and then seeing them take shape and grow? If this sounds like you, then we want you on our team!
As an SSSC volunteer, your mission is to make a difference in the Faculty of Science. This can be done in tons of ways - by mentoring another student one-on-one and helping them set goals, running a workshop where students learn about various exciting topics, coming up with a new event that the SSSC could offer science students, or helping one of your SSSC teammates study for an exam. As an SSSC volunteer, your job is to make a difference for as many undergraduate students as you can in whatever ways that you can think of!
What Will You Get Out of Volunteering in the SSSC?
Being a volunteer with the SSSC is a fun and rewarding opportunity that will challenge you and allow you to develop new skills while using and improving your existing abilities. As a mentor, you are being given the opportunity to be an on-campus resource - supporting your peers and providing guidance during mentoring sessions as you navigate university life together as a Carleton University student. Plus we do tons of fun community activities like game nights!
Being an SSSC volunteer will also connect you to other high-achieving students who will become your friends and colleagues. You will develop your leadership aptitude and skills you can take into your future career. Volunteering in the SSSC will also open up doors to research and professional growth. Our team members often receive special consideration when seeking industry mentors, securing scholarships, attending selective events, serving on committees, and applying for summer jobs. We work hard to ensure our mentors get the recognition they deserve.
Additionally, all-volunteer work in the SSSC is recognized on the Carleton Co-Curricular Record
