Team Lead

The Role of a Team Lead

The SSSC depends on the leadership of returning mentors to provide direction and motivation to the rest of the volunteers. Team Leads largely work with minimal supervision but are also required to communicate regularly with the SSSC staff to provide updates, feedback, and assistance for SSSC projects and programming.

Being a Team Lead involves an average of five volunteer hours per week. Team Leads must be scheduled for two 1.5 hour shifts in the SSSC each week. One shift will be available for mentoring sessions while the other shift will be set aside for delegating responsibilities, following up with team members, and executing tasks for the team. During busy times of the year, Team Leads may be asked to mentor during their planning shift.

Each Team Lead will be given a Team Template outlining the major activities completed by the team in the previous year. The Team Lead is responsible for updating this plan for the team's direction and presenting it to SSSC Staff / Management by June 1st. This will ensure that all events are posted on the SSSC Event Calendar before the beginning of the fall academic term.

With planning completed over the summer, Team Leads will focus during the school year on delegating responsibilities, executing team tasks, documenting team successes and shortcomings, and communicating effectively with their fellow Peer Mentors and the entire SSSC community.

What Will You Get Out of Being a Team Lead?

SSSC Team Leads gain stronger leadership and management skills. All Team Leads are required to complete online leadership training over the summer. Being an SSSC Team Lead not only goes on your resume, but it also will help you develop skills that will help you greatly in your future career!
