About Julie M.
Hello! My name is Julie and I am in my 4th year of health science with a concentration in health throughout the lifespan and a minor in psychology. This year I will be returning as a Peer Mentor as well as a First-Year Rep Team Lead.
One piece of advice I would offer to first year students is to prioritize your own mental health, especially with the additional stress that can happen with going to university. It can be really difficult to balance everything in the first few months so it’s always a good idea to make a planner and remember to schedule in some down time doing an activity you enjoy or hanging out with friends. Along with this it is also a good idea to get involved on campus. Carleton has many different clubs and societies that cover a huge range of interests so getting involved can help you step outside your comfort zone and meet more people within your first year.
I was a First Year Rep during my first year as well as a Peer Mentor and First Year Rep Team Lead throughout my second and third year and will be continuing on this year. I have also been involved in SciSoc during my time at Carleton with being an executive assistant for the wellness team in second year, a special events director in programming last year and coming on this year as the VP Internal. These experiences have provided an amazing way of meeting new people as well as has allowed me to be more immersed in Carleton’s science community.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out. I hope everyone has a great school year!
