A Piece of Advice for Students Starting Their First Year
A piece of advice I would give to students starting their first year is to figure out what works best for you early on, whether that is your study habits, schedule, or balance between school and personal life, and not be afraid to try new things until you find what works! I would also tell them to try and get involved early, because it is one of the easiest ways to meet people, build a support system, and make university feel less overwhelming!
Reyna's Involvement On-Campus
During my time at university, I have loved getting involved with a variety of clubs and student groups across campus. I have been a part of BioCARE, the MSA multimedia team as a photographer/videographer, Islamic Relief Carleton University, and CUSA as a Councillor for the Faculty of Science, while also volunteering with initiatives such as Brain Awareness Week and other club events whenever possible. I have also enjoyed getting involved in research on campus, which has allowed me to explore my interests more deeply and connect with other students and mentors. Getting involved in different communities has been one of the most rewarding parts of my university experience, and I am also hoping to start my own club soon!
Interests Outside of School
Outside of university, I enjoy a mix of hobbies, volunteering, and exploring. I love reading, hiking, photography, manga and anime, and I have recently gotten into pottery using air-dry clay, but I hope to buy a pottery wheel someday! I also enjoy volunteering with groups such as Meals on Wheels and occasionally with a hospital research department, playing basketball when I can, and trying new cafes and restaurants around the city, which I have a very long list of!
