Are you interested in applying to medical school? Have you ever wished you could just talk to someone about the application process, and what studying medicine is actually like? Then this event is for you!

Join us on Wednesday, November 16 from 5:30pm-7:00pm for your chance to chat with current medical students! We will start off with a panel style Q&A period Q&A period followed by an open discussion in which you will have an opportunity to ask the panelists your questions.

This year's panelists are:

  • Abhishek Kurusetty, 2nd year, McMaster University

    My name is Abhishek Kursetty, and I am a second-year medical student at McMaster University. I am originally from Ottawa where I completed a biochemistry honours degree from Carleton University from 2017 - 2021.

  • Alexa Derksen, 2nd year, University of Ottawa

    My name is Alexa Derksen, I am a second year MD/PhD student at the University of Ottawa. I grew up in Ottawa and attended Carleton University for my undergraduate studies where I majored in Biology. After completing my Bachelor’s I moved to Montreal, and completed a Master’s of Science in the Integrated Program in Neuroscience at McGill University.

  • Catherine Kennedy, 3rd year, St. George's University

    Hey! My name is Catherine, born and raised in the Ottawa area, and I attended Carleton University. I am a 2020 graduate of the Health Sciences program with a concentration in biomedical science. Currently I am a third-year medical student at St. George’s University completing my clerkship rotations at Jersey Shore University Medical Centre.

    • Emma Huang, 2nd year, University of Ottawa

      Hello! My name is Emma and I’m a second-year medical student studying at the University of Ottawa. I grew up here in Ottawa and I studied Health Sciences at McMaster University. I really enjoy going on hikes/walks, baking, listening to Taylor Swift, and watching The Office.

      I remember how stressful the process of applying to medical school is, so I hope I can offer a few words of comfort and share some advice that helped me through my applications!

    • Kika Otiono, 4th year, McMaster University

      Kika Otiono is a final-year medical student at McMaster University. She completed 3 years of the Humanities program at Carleton University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with a Minor in Biology, and she considers Ottawa home. Outside of school, Kika enjoys reading, watching documentaries, and listening to many many podcasts.

    • Kiyan Heybati, 2nd year, Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine

      My name is Kiyan, and I am in my second year of the MD/MS program at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Rochester, MN. I am from Toronto and completed my undergraduate degree in Health Sciences (BHSc) at McMaster University. I am currently interested in cardiac critical care or cardiac anesthesia. I also like competing in long-distance running and triathlon events.
